Hook and Ladder Academy (Ages 15-18)

NORTH AREA HOOK and LADDER ACADEMY logoNorth Metro Fire, South Adams County Fire and Thornton Fire are teaming up to host the North Area Hook and Ladder Academy this summer from June 16-20, 2025. Local students, ages 15-18, are invited to participate in the free five-day academy to learn about the many aspects of a career in fire and emergency medical services.

Each day is a full day of hands-on training taught by professional firefighters. Training sessions will focus on different subjects, including emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, auto extrication, public education, and technical rescue. Students will participate in classroom sessions, practical evolutions, and experience several hands-on firefighting techniques, including handling a fire hose and using a fire extinguisher. At the end of the week, participants will be recognized in a special graduation ceremony in front of their instructors, family members and friends.

The North Area Hook and Ladder Academy is free and will meet Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Adams County Fire Training Center (9911 E 104th Avenue, Commerce City, CO 80022). Applications must be completed online and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must be a student currently attending school or residing in the cities of Thornton, Northglenn, or Broomfield and agree to a background check. Given the limited class size, those who have participated before or who are currently enrolled in a fire/EMS program in school will be placed on a waitlist and may be accepted if spots are available.
