Emergency Notifications

Communication is key during a large incident—both between first responders on scene and also between government agencies and the public. There are several ways that government agencies, such as police and fire, share information with the public during an emergency. It’s important for residents and property owners to connect with these communication channels and notification systems to receive accurate and timely safety information. Additionally, there are ways residents can let their police and fire departments know vital information automatically, such as door codes and health information, while responding to an emergency.

LookoutAlert - For Broomfield and Jefferson County

Lookout Alert - Text-to-subscribeLookoutAlert is a free service that allows you to sign up online to receive customized alerts via text message, email, and voice message. Through LookoutAlert, your emergency responders are able to send official, real-time alerts to the public with information about potentially life-saving actions they may need to take to keep themselves and their families safe.

LookoutAlert is integrated with another service, Smart911. Through Smart911, Broomfield residents can set up their safety profile and input their medical information, prescriptions, door and garage codes and information on occupants and pets in the household. Broomfield dispatchers can then access the safety profiles to provide essential information to first responders in case of emergency.

CodeRED - For Northglenn, Adams County and Weld County

Graphic encouraging residents to sign up for CodeRED online or via their appSimilar to Reverse911, CodeRED can be used to notify residents of significant incidents impacting their geographic area, such as hazardous materials incidents requiring evacuations or sheltering in place, major weather warnings, a dangerous person in the area, a missing child, water contamination, to name a few.

CodeRED provides notifications to residents through phone, text and email. Landlines are automatically registered with the notification system, but anyone using a cell phone should register their phone through the registration website.

Everbridge - For Boulder County

Similar to LookoutAlert and CodeRed, Everbridge is another system that sends out emergency notifications to registered members and is the system Boulder County uses.

Lock Box Program

Both Broomfield and Northglenn have Lock Box Programs to provide lock boxes to seniors or anyone who has a concern about fire/police gaining access to their house with a lock box. The lock box is similar to what real estate agents use and allows you to place a house key inside for first responders to access in case of an emergency. The lock combination and location is stored in the police department’s information system and shared with first responders when needed.
