Robert Nielsen was appointed to the board of directors in October 2019 to fill a vacated board position. However, Nielsen is not new to the fire district. He served two terms as a board director from 2010 to 2018, including serving as the board president. Nielsen is a former fire chief from Illinois and has close to 50 years of experience working with the fire service. He has been a resident of Broomfield since 2006.
