Is it safe to use your fire pit? Are you allowed to use a grill on your apartment balcony? Can you burn trash in your backyard if there are no fire bans? Do you need permission to have a bonfire at an event? These are all good questions, and the answers vary depending on three primary factors--weather, air quality and fire codes. Fire restrictions and fire codes serve one purpose: to keep you and our community safe. camp fire

You can stay updated on current fire restrictions by following North Metro Fire's website and your county health department. Your county sheriff's office may also post restrictions related to fire bans, etc. To learn more about fire restrictions and codes related to outdoor burning and cooking, check out the following North Metro Fire resources:

Protecting Your Home from Wildfire

In addition to staying informed about fire restrictions and complying with fire codes, you can take steps to help protect your home from vegetation/grass fires that can spread quickly in hot, dry and windy conditions.

  • Clear away dead leaves, dry vegetation and other combustible materials, such as firewood, within five feet of your home.
  • Keep flammable materials, such as gasoline and propane, stored away from your home.
  • Trim away branches that are close to or touching your home.
  • Learn more about creating a fire-resistant zone around your home.
