David Waller, P.E., deputy fire marshal for North Metro Fire Rescue District, recently received two national honors by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). The Broomfield resident was selected as a SFPE Fellow, making him one of only 13 chosen from 4500 members for the distinguished title this year. Additionally, he earned the Hats Off Award from SFPE for outstanding achievement in fire protection engineering.
According to SFPE, SFPE Fellows represent a distinguished group of members who have attained significant stature and accomplishment in engineering. Fellows have been professional-level members of the Society for at least 10 years and have been nominated by their peers for outstanding contributions to the advancement of fire protection engineering and valuable service to SFPE.
“Dave has a long-standing history of service to the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SFPE, serving in several leadership positions. He has been instrumental in many aspects that make our chapter what it is today, including the creation of our website, the collaboration of multiple industry groups and the championing of our industry at the state level,” said Sean Donohue, who nominated Waller for the honor. Waller has been on the SFPE Rocky Mountain Chapter board of directors for the past 13 years and is currently serving as the chapter president.
He has over 25 years in the engineering field and has been with North Metro Fire for 18 of those years, working his way up from fire safety engineer to deputy fire marshal. Within his role, Waller oversees plan reviews, fire code compliance and fire inspections, and most recently, he has led his team in implementing an entirely new records management system. He also serves on the District’s wildland team and honor guard.
“We are extremely proud of Dave and the recognition he has received. It’s our goal at North Metro Fire to be leaders in every facet of the fire service, and Dave is one of those who strives to grow in his career and contribute to the fire protection profession at home and beyond,” said David Ramos, North Metro Fire Chief.
