Blood Pressure Checks
North Metro Fire Rescue needs your help in reducing heart disease and strokes in our community by coming in for a FREE blood pressure. You will receive a monitoring card to keep track of any changes in your blood pressure.
High blood pressure (hypertension) occurs when the body's smaller blood vessels narrow, which causes the blood to exert excessive pressure against the vessel walls. In turn, the heart must work harder to maintain this higher pressure. In time, this increased blood pressure can enlarge and damage the heart as well as blood vessels. High blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke. In addition, high blood pressure can also lead to severe headaches, visual disturbances, paralysis, seizures and cardiac disease.

Smoke Alarm Program
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has found that people have a 50% greater chance in successfully surviving a fire with working smoke alarms that are properly installed in their home. To this end, North Metro Fire Rescue provides FREE smoke detectors and replacement batteries to district seniors, residents that demonstrate a financial need or residents with special needs. Call North Metro if you need a smoke alarm or assistance in replacing the battery for the alarm in your home. Contact Jeff Dorrell at (720) 887-0404.
Let's Retire Fire
This program benefits the older citizens of the District. The fact is that persons over the age of 65 are at a greater risk of death from fire than any other age group in the United States (United States Fire Administration). Fire drills and other fire safety issues are addressed in the curriculum. North Metro Fire Rescue is proud to report that since the program was implemented, it has been credited to saving the lives of 50 district citizens!
