Robert Nielsen has been a Broomfield resident for over a decade. With
close to 45 years of experience working with the fire service, Nielsen’s
career began in the U.S. Air Force in 1961. He spent approximately 28
years with the Oak Brook Fire Department in Illinois, rising through
the ranks and retiring as fire chief in 1997. He then spent another
eight years with the Westmont, IL Fire Department, as their
accreditation manager. In 2009, he was awarded the status of fire chief
emeritus by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association. He was also the former
chairman of the Lemont Fire Protection District Fire Commission, also
in Illinois, where he served two terms. He has been a presenter at both
the state and national level on the subjects of management,
certification, and code enforcement along with having over 25 articles
published on these topics, in recognized fire service trade journals.
Nielsen has raised two children with his wife Jackie and has served on
the North Metro Fire Board since May 2010.
